It is taking me a lot of guts and courage to write this entry as my personal tribute to an individual named Yasmin Ahmad which I truly, truly admire and have my upmost respect towards her. I, amongst other Malaysians is facing a lot of difficulty to accept the news that she is no longer here. Walaupun hati ni redha, namun berat sungguh hati ni nak menerima that there will no longer be her movies in the cinemas and there won’t be much anticipation now for the annual Petronas adverts during the festive seasons and also during our Independence Day.
Less is more. That is what her work portrays. Tgk saje la hasil kerjanya from Sepet to Gubra to Mukhsin and Talentime. (Muallaf tak bleh diamik kira coz tak lepas tayangan kat Msia..pfft). Whenever her movies is out, I will be dashing to the cinemas to support her movies, tp sayang tak sempat tgk Talentime aritu coz I was so caught up with my wedding preparation. If you want a concept of 1Malaysia, you don’t have to go far. Apa message yg cuba disampaikan? Simple saje kan..semangat muhibbah. Dari our politicians kita ni bagai nak rak membazir air liur speech sana speech sini, kempen sana kempen sini I doubt it will instill any patriotism in Malaysians like how arwah has touched our hearts through her movies and her adverts. Yeah, I’m being biased and blunt here but that’s the reality. Kang ckp lebih blog ni kene ban plak kan? Semangat 1Malaysia must come from each individual. We all must have a clear mindset to respect one another, to have no boundaries with each other, to not differentiate one another, to stop pinpointing fingers to one another and stand united, be comfortable in each other’s skins..baru la betul.
Sigh. Sebak hati ni. Sakit dada tau menulis entry ni.
It touches my heart even more when I see the pictures during her burial that there were so many people of different colours coming to pay their final respect. Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon, Tony Fernandez and many more came down..terharu siot. Yesterday, the radio stations made their tribute to her, in the morning I listened to HotFM and in the evening I listened to FlyFM. Surprisingly, it was FlyFM that made me close to tears and some more the DJ’s and most listeners of Fly are non Malays. Muhibbah ke tak tuu..their tributes were really from the bottom of their heart, the DJ’s voices were breaking up as they go on air as they too can’t seem to fight the sadness. Mcm nak suh dorang sedekahkan Al-Fatihah je..huhu.
Pasal controversy about her jantina tu, tu hal dia dan Allah S.W.T. We know her as Yasmin Ahmad and we shall respect her as that. Period.
I do hope someone out there would continue her legacy as a director in creating such wonderful advertisements and I hope there will be more Malaysian movies like hers. Enough la with movies involving mat rempits or kete drift pusing merata KL, with the lame plot of cinta tiga segi and with the typical corporate style of living, umah beso gedebaq, pakai kete Merc, keje company mak bapak projek sana sini..urgh bosan hokey! For me, she is on the same rank as the late Tan Sri P Ramlee..her legacy will remain forever in our hearts.
Al-Fatihah. Semoga rohnya dicucuri rahmat.
one of my favourite Raya ad. 🙂
